“Midnight Blue” by Trianna B.

 “Midnight Blue”

Midnight blue is the color of the sky
When the twinkling stars
Floating in a vast sea of mystery
Shine the brightest.
Midnight blue is the bottom of the ocean
Where horrific creatures resideIn blue-black darkness.
It is an enigma both simple and complex,
Drawing you deep within, engulfing you completely
Yet barely allowing you to scratch the surface.

There are midnight blue shadows
And midnight blue dreams, which will never be understood.
Velvety darkness feels midnight blue.
Midnight blue is the essence of intrigue.

Midnight blue should invoke thoughts
Of puzzlement, curiosity, interest –
Not of horror and fear.

Midnight blue feels like jumping into something new,
Taking a blind leap
And not knowing what will happen.
Midnight blue is the color of the unknown.

Midnight blue should feel like wondrous mystery,
Even though it looks like a shadow
Concealing terror and hysteria.

“Red” by Rachel L.

“Red”

Red is the color of glamour, beauty, and happiness,
It’s the twinkle in a lover’s eye,
The scales on the wing of a monarch,
Of ruby red and light violet streaks in the sky.

There are red tulips and red smiles,
Life feels red, loving,
bursting at the seams,
Smiles make my life red,
and blooming flowers surround
my emotions and add their spice to my world.

Red should not be bitter, deceiving, and terrifying,
But exuberant,
vivacious
and
unable to be conquered.

Red feels like a warm bug
or a room full of laughing friends,
Or a sunny day that never dims.

Red should feel like Cloud Nine,
But it also looks like dew on a ripe cherry,
A lipstick smudge on a napkin,
A shiny pair of red stilettos,
Red should feel carefree
and omnipotent.

“Red” by Lauren S.

“Red”

Red is the color of hate
A blade held down
By a broken heart
Because the words of another
They could not bear
Upon their weary shoulders

Red is the color of raspberries and our flag
Raspberries feel like
Summer days running wild
With friends
But the flag speaks
Of blood shed
And sorrows born
Because the hate of another
Spilled over our own

Roses should be beautiful
Filled with love
And a symbol of grace
Not wilted and black
With hate and abuse
Lying dying and torn
Like a bleeding heart

Red feels like anger, sorrow, and loss
Red is rage
Hatred
Towards a brother
Or a crimson river flowing,
Sorrow created
At the expense
Of a lover

Red should feel like trust and love
But it smells like
Rain falling down
Sounds like
Cries floating on the wind
Tastes like
Darkness
and
Death.

“Indigo” by Brett M.

“Indigo”

Indigo is the color of self-awareness,
A trip to the mirror to not examine others, but yourself.
Indigo is the color of spirituality,
Thinking out life on your own without others’ thoughts and ideas.
Indigo is the color of individuality,
Realizing you are not just another can waiting to be labeled.

There are indigo oceans and Indigo Girls.
Waves feel fleeting, hypnotizing, and impartial.
The moon piercing through black midnight pushes out anxiety and
worry,
If only for that one moment.

Indigo should be comforting and understanding,
Not uncompassionate and critical.

Indigo feels like worthlessness, confusion, and blindness.
Indigo is being swept into the mob and uncertain why.

Indigo should feel like clarity,
But indigo looks like the person you see every day yet
Have no idea who they are.

Color Poem: “Gold” by Kelsey

“Gold”

 Gold is the color heaven,
Of beautiful angels
dancing
beneath the brilliant
laughing sun.

There are golden sunsets,
golden stars
Waters that reflect its
glittering
Joy.
Gold feels like
the Home
you never knew you had.
Gold is the color of candlelight
that dances with the glimmering steps
Over the faded pages
of a long-forgotten book,
A story that steals the heart
and shines in the dark of the night.

Gold should be
the color of kings—
the Midas Touch
of power and glory,
But instead it gleams
in the tiniest crack
of a poor
and broken
heart.

Gold feels like
Joy
and Hope
and Home.
Gold is the path that winds
from Destruction
from Death
To the place where pain is but an echo
of a life laid down
for Love.

Gold should feel like laughter,
a thousand rays of sun
Carrying voices  that whisper and sing
of a shimmering place
Beyond.
But it is Sadness—
Golden tears shed
for the weeping child
who has not heard
its sweet and gentle song
the tears of joy it brings
the strength that stands
for Eternity.
